IC-Hub Spotlight: Masumi Yamashina, child protection and gender expert

Welcome to our IC-Hubber Spotlight series. Today, we’re thrilled to introduce you to an exceptional IC-Hub member, Masumi Yamashina!

Masumi Yamashina - Founder and Executive Director of Tsunagu B.V.

Masumi brings more than 15 years of experience, primarily in Child Protection, gender-based violence), gender, Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), social protection and livelihoods with UNICEF, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), Japanese Red Cross and the Japan Centre for Conflict Resolution. She holds a Master’s in International Law.


Masumi has worked in development and humanitarian contexts such as Afghanistan, China, Sri Lanka, South Sudan and Zimbabwe and at the global post in Geneva. Since 2020, Masumi has mentored start-ups and non-profit organizations in Google’s Sustainable Development Goals acceleration program and their Impact Challenge for Women and Girls.


Consulting highlights

Masumi started her consulting firm, Tsunagu, in August 2021. Tsunagu B.V. is a global consultancy firm based in the Netherlands that works with United Nations agencies, development partners, business enterprises, and civil society to build a better future for children and women.


Tsunagu houses more than 40 experienced Associates with diverse backgrounds from 25 countries who bring a range of skills in both practice and research. Tsunagu has provided consultancy services related to training, resource development, research, and evaluation related to gender-based violence (GBV), child protection, and accountability to affected people (AAP), and their work is expanding.


Masumi’s diverse and meaningful experiences help her contribute unique insights to her clients and make her an invaluable part of the IC-Hub.
